The heart-stopping scene was recorded by witnesses in Wenzhou city, Zhejiang province, China, showing a fierce fire breaking out in an apartment on the 4th floor of an apartment building, causing thick smoke to billow out.
A woman and her child were trapped inside a fourth-floor apartment when they opened a window to poke their heads out to seek help. Passersby below saw the scene and stretched out a blanket in case the woman had to drop the child.
The fire and smoke continued to rage, leaving the woman with no choice but to drop the child from the fourth floor window and hope that people below could catch the child.

Luckily, the baby fell onto a blanket that was stretched out below and passersby caught the baby, even though the baby had previously gotten caught on an electric wire above during the fall.
While the child was rescued by passersby, the woman remained trapped inside the fire and had to wait for firefighters to arrive.
Local firefighters were quickly on the scene and it took nearly an hour to extinguish the fire. The woman trapped in the fire was rescued safely with some burns on her body and smoke inhalation shock, but her life was not in danger.
When the woman saw her little child again, she was very happy and hugged the child. Both mother and child were lucky to be safe after the critical situation.
A clip of passersby joining forces to rescue a child has gone viral after being posted on social media. Chinese netizens have been full of praise for the timely actions of the kind passersby.
"When the woman dropped the child below, she put all her trust in the passersby. Fortunately, these passersby did not disappoint the mother's trust in her desperate moment," a Weibo user commented after watching the clip.

Fortunately, the fire did not cause any casualties. Authorities have investigated the fire and the initial cause was determined to be an electrical short circuit.
