According to The Straits Times , Ms. Ahn Gwi-ryeong (35 years old) was later identified as a member of the opposition Democratic Party (DP) in Korea and in charge of Dobong District in the capital Seoul. Previously, she was a broadcaster on YTN. Ms. Ahn strongly criticized South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on social media, calling for Mr. Yoon to resign and supporting the investigation of the president's wife, Ms. Kim Keon Hee, regarding the accusation that she received a luxury handbag.

After President Yoon declared martial law, soldiers stormed the National Assembly building to prevent lawmakers from doing their jobs. Some lawmakers used tables and chairs to block the doors and sprayed fire extinguishers at the soldiers. The National Assembly later passed President Yoon's request to lift martial law and the soldiers left. There were no serious injuries.

Lawmakers from opposition parties filed a motion to impeach the president on December 4. The plan is expected to be discussed at a session on December 5 and voted on a day later. The content of the impeachment minutes states that President Yoon Suk Yeol imposed martial law not out of national security concerns, but to avoid criminal investigations related to him and his family, according to AFP.

On the same day, December 4, Yonhap News Agency quoted informed sources as saying that President Yoon had a meeting with South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and officials of the ruling People's Power Party (PPP) to discuss the next steps after the political crisis. Mr. Yoon's cabinet and close advisers had previously submitted their resignations.

AFP reported that a group of protesters marched to the South Korean President's office in Seoul on the afternoon of December 4, demanding Mr. Yoon's resignation. The crowd went to the presidential residence and dispersed a few hours later.
