Vietnamese chess team won 2 silver medals at Asian Chess Championship 2023

Returning after the unfortunate absence from the 32nd SEA Games, Nguyen Hoang Yen showed that she is worthy of being an excellent representative of the Vietnamese women's chess team competing in the international arena. After 5 matches, the Ho Chi Minh City-born player only lost 1 match against Ngo Kha Han (China) while winning 3 and drawing 1, winning the silver medal at the 2023 Asian Chess Championship. This achievement is the motivation for Nguyen Hoang Yen to look forward to the 19th ASIAD in September in Hangzhou (China).

In the U.18 men's individual event, Ngo Tri Thien only lost one match to Manh Phan Due (China) and was satisfied with the silver medal. If continued investment, Ngo Tri Thien promises to follow in the footsteps of his seniors such as Lai Ly Huynh and Nguyen Thanh Bao.

In the men's team event, due to the absence of No. 1 player Lai Ly Huynh and the poor performance of some players, the Vietnamese team did not compete as expected. The loss to China was not surprising, but the loss to Hong Kong meant that Nguyen Thanh Bao and Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang had no chance of finishing second, and could only compete for third place. In the final match of the qualifying round taking place tomorrow, the Vietnamese team will face Malaysia and must win to have a chance to compete for the bronze medal.
