On the afternoon of November 14, Dr. Huynh Nhu Dong, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Central Highlands General Hospital, said that the hospital had just performed emergency surgery to remove a bullet from the head of a 12-year-old male patient.
According to Dr. Dong, patient Đ.GB (12 years old, residing in Ea Kar Town, Ea Kar District, Dak Lak ) was admitted to the Central Highlands General Hospital at 6:00 p.m. on November 13 in a state of being shot in the head.
After examination, doctors diagnosed that B. had a traumatic brain injury caused by a firearm, bilateral temporal skull fractures, bilateral subdural hematomas, brain contusions, and cerebral hemorrhage, so urgent surgery was required.
The doctor is taking care of and monitoring B.'s health at the hospital.
After more than 3 hours of emergency surgery, doctors removed a bullet measuring 4 x 4 mm from B.'s head.
According to Dr. Dong, B. is now out of danger and is being closely monitored. However, Dr. Dong is also concerned that the head injury may leave sequelae for the child.
At the hospital, B.'s mother said that on the afternoon of November 13, B. was coming home from school and visiting a friend's house when he was shot in the head. "I don't know what caused the incident because I'm focusing on treating my son," B.'s mother shared.
The bullet removed from B.'s head is currently being kept by the Central Highlands General Hospital to serve the investigation of the authorities.
