On June 4, US President's Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry made a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The visit is in preparation for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) to be held in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
Mr. Kerry met with the host country's Foreign Minister and Chairman of the High-Level Committee responsible for overseeing the preparations for COP28, Abdullah bin Zayed, and COP28 President-designate Sultan al-Jaber to discuss the US-UAE partnership in various areas, with a focus on climate.
Discussions also focused on detailed plans to respond to climate change in the UAE, as well as measures to strengthen global cooperation and multilateral action in this area.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed and Mr. Kerry reviewed the two countries' joint initiatives in the field of climate action, including the UAE-US Partnership for Accelerated Clean Energy (PACE), which aims to attract US$100 billion to finance, invest and support the development of clean energy projects with a capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW) in the two countries and globally by 2035.
The UAE Foreign Minister stressed Abu Dhabi's unwavering approach to building bridges of communication and cooperation with the world and strengthening multilateral action in dealing with challenges related to climate change.
He stressed that the UAE-US Climate Action Partnership, which includes various initiatives and projects, is a pioneering model for collaborative action for a climate-safe future with sustainable development and economic prosperity.
According to Mr. Abdullah bin Zayed, when deciding to host the COP28 Conference, the UAE is determined to lead global efforts to address climate change issues and move these initiatives from the stage of making commitments to the stage of implementation with specific actions.
