Ensuring security for Vietnamese workers in the Middle East

On September 18, the Department of Overseas Labor Management (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs) said it had just sent a dispatch to service businesses sending Vietnamese workers to work in the Middle East region regarding ensuring safety for workers in areas with conflicts or risks of conflicts.

Vietnamese workers working in the Middle East

According to the Department of Overseas Labor Management, the conflict in the Middle East has continued to spread, become complicated and unpredictable, and may cause adverse psychological impacts, affecting the work and life of Vietnamese workers working there.

Faced with the above situation, the Department of Overseas Labor Management requires service businesses sending workers to work in the Middle East region to regularly contact workers, partners, permanent representatives of the business and Vietnamese diplomatic missions in the region to update the work and living situation of workers in order to promptly support workers when necessary.

Enterprises must require Vietnamese labor partners to take measures to ensure security and safety for workers and promptly notify local authorities when problems arise.

Strengthening employee management, advising employees to comply with regulations to ensure security and safety at home and at work.

When there are issues related to employees, it is necessary to promptly report to relevant agencies for advice, support, and to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of employees.

In August, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned Vietnamese citizens not to travel to Lebanon, Iran and Israel at this time. The Vietnamese Embassy in the Middle East also requested local authorities to ensure maximum safety for Vietnamese citizens.

There are about 10,000 Vietnamese workers working in Middle Eastern countries, in industries such as construction, mechanics... and a few are engineers. Vietnamese workers are mainly concentrated in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar...
