On August 4, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province announced that it had issued Document No. 572/UBND-KTTH requesting the Prime Minister to consider supporting 2,350 billion VND from the central budget in addition to the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030, to invest in upgrading and expanding National Highway 24 from Km32 to Km89+515 (from Ba To commune to Kon Plong commune).
Accordingly, 1,150 billion VND will be supported in 2025 to invest in the section from Km57 to Km89+515 (section through Violak pass), the remaining amount will be arranged in the following years.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, National Highway 24 has a total length of about 165km, of which the Km0-Km32 section and the Km89+515 - Km165 section have been invested to meet the standards of a grade III mountainous road. Particularly, the 57.5km Km32 - Km89+515 section mentioned above, most of which passes through Violak Pass, has not been upgraded according to the plan, the current state of the road is small, narrow, winding, many sections are damaged, often have dense fog, and pose a potential risk of accidents.
This is the only traffic route connecting Quang Ngai with the Central Highlands, which is of great significance in socio -economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Central Highlands region.
In particular, after the province's merger, the travel, transportation and trade needs of people, officials, civil servants and businesses have increased sharply, and traffic pressure on the route has become increasingly greater.
In the context of increasing demand for transportation, goods circulation and travel, if we wait for capital allocation in the medium-term plan for the period 2026-2030 or wait for the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway project, we will not be able to solve urgent needs and ensure traffic safety. Therefore, investing in and upgrading the route is necessary and urgent.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, if the Prime Minister agrees, the province will be determined to implement it, committing to complete it by early 2027.
