Forum on Women Leadership in Journalism

- On the afternoon of June 19, within the framework of the National Press Forum 2025, an in-depth discussion forum on “Female leaders in journalism: Women’s voices in news management” took place. The forum was attended by speakers representing leaders of central press agencies, the Press Department, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Currently, the country has more than 800 press agencies with about 41,000 people working in the field of press and media, of which about 21,000 are granted press cards. Although the number of female journalists is increasing in both quality and quantity, the potential has not been fully exploited. The proportion of female members in the Vietnam Journalists Association accounts for more than 40%, but to date there has not been a female leader holding the position of Vice President of the Association or higher; the number of female editors-in-chief is also modest compared to the total number of female journalists.

At the discussion session, the speakers discussed and focused on a number of contents such as: The presence and listening of female leaders in the press environment; The voice of female leaders in press agencies; Necessary and sufficient conditions for female leaders in press agencies to maximize their voice and capacity in press management; "Sensitivity" and tact in work relationships; The issue of promoting the positive view of male leaders and colleagues about female leaders...

Through the exchange and discussion process, delegates also discussed management capacity, the journey of overcoming prejudice, the necessary conditions to nurture and support the new generation of female press leaders and nurture newsroom culture in the digital age.

Through discussion, the forum affirmed that the voice of women in journalism today is not only a presence but also a power to create, manage and lead. Female journalists are affirming their mettle, intelligence and commitment in a challenging profession every day.
