Agreeing to let Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong withdraw, NAFOSTED Foundation emphasizes integrity factor

Today, November 8, the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) has just sent a notice to the press about Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong's request to withdraw from the Mathematics Council of NAFOSTED.

According to the announcement, on October 31, the Director of the NAFOSTED Fund Executive Board and the Mathematics Council for the 2022-2024 term of the fund received a request from Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong, a member of the Mathematics Council, to withdraw from the council. Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong stated the reason for his withdrawal was because he had cooperated in scientific research for economic reasons with Ton Duc Thang University and Thu Dau Mot University, affecting the reputation of the council.

At the request of the Director of the NAFOSTED Foundation Executive Board, on November 7, the Mathematics Council held a meeting to consider the proposal of Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong.

After discussing the relevant aspects of Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong's proposal, comparing them with the regulations on research integrity for the implementation of scientific and technological tasks funded and supported by the NAFOSTED Foundation (issued with Decision No. 10/QD-HDQL-NAFOSTED dated February 10, 2022), the members of the Mathematics Council unanimously recommended that the fund allow Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong to stop participating in the council.

Based on the recommendation of the Mathematics Council, NAFOSTED Foundation will carry out procedures for Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong to stop participating in the Mathematics Council for the 2022 - 2024 term.

In the announcement, NAFOSTED affirmed: "The National Foundation for Science and Technology Development strongly supports ensuring research integrity in science and technology activities, contributing to creating a standard research environment and international integration in Vietnam."

The announcement also emphasized: "The issue of research integrity has been of interest and discussion to the Vietnamese scientific community in recent years. Especially in recent times, ensuring research integrity has become urgent with many issues and incidents related to honesty and reliability in scientific research and publication of scientific works in Vietnam."

At the end of the announcement, NAFOSTED introduced an excerpt of the fund's charter of organization and operation. Accordingly, members of the science and technology council are prestigious scientists and managers with high professional qualifications, selected from the fund's expert database on the basis of professional achievements and credibility of scientists and managers in the same field of expertise. The science and technology council operates according to the principles of democracy, objectivity, honesty, compliance with the law and professional ethics.
