Activities such as visiting small islands and night squid fishing in Co To are prohibited until the inspection of vehicles and related procedures is completed.

Local authorities said that recently, on social networking sites, many images and clips have appeared advertising and selling spontaneous, unlicensed night squid fishing tours and tours to small islands in Co To. These activities pose potential risks of traffic safety, drowning, disorder and insecurity, and affect the tourism environment.

To rectify the situation, on June 24, the People's Committee of Co To district requested localities to announce a ban on night squid fishing tours and stop visiting small islands such as Ca Chep, Su Tu, and Co To Con until the review of passenger vehicles and operating conditions is completed.

"The authorities will strictly handle violations for the safety of tourists," said Mr. Nguyen Hai Linh - Head of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Co To district.

According to Mr. Linh, for profit, some units have arbitrarily organized tours on unlicensed vehicles, without purchasing passenger insurance, without having a team of rescue workers, and without following the itinerary.

Local authorities have notified tour operators to complete plans for managing, exploiting and operating activities to bring tourists to visit small islands, experience nature and swim in the sea.

Particularly on Carp Island, a place that attracts about 400 to 600 visitors per day, peaking at 1,000 visitors, Co To district assigned Dong Tien commune to rebuild the tour opening project, ensuring compliance with regulations.

During this time, visitors can experience the beaches on the big Co To island, visit Thanh Lan island and dive here.

In the first 6 months of 2024, Co To island district welcomed more than 179,000 visitors, nearly equal to the same period last year. From April to now alone, there have been more than 163,000 visitors.

Co To is also an island district that has a regulation prohibiting tourists from bringing plastic bags and single-use plastic items to the islands, in order to help keep the marine environment clean. Many rare animals such as whales, dolphins, and sea turtles have appeared frequently in these waters.
