Free USD price reaches 25,700 VND/USD, highest in history

According to a survey, the USD price on the free market in Hanoi is currently trading at 25,500 - 25,700 VND/USD (buy - sell). This is also the highest selling price ever on the "black market".

The owner of a trading store on Ha Trung street said that the USD price today increased by 30 VND for buying and 150 VND for selling compared to the end of last week.

Since the beginning of 2024, the free USD price has increased by about 880 VND in buying and 1,000 VND in selling.

Meanwhile, at banks, the USD price today is in the opposite direction, going down.

Specifically, at 2:30 p.m. on March 11, Vietcombank listed the USD price at 24,400 - 24,770 VND/USD (buy - sell), down 100 VND in both directions compared to the trading session last weekend (March 8).

At the same time, VietinBank traded USD at 24,363 - 24,783 VND/USD (buy - sell), down 77 VND in buying and down 97 VND in selling compared to the morning of March 8.

The current central exchange rate announced by the State Bank on March 11 is 23,972 VND/USD, down 24 VND compared to the listed rate last weekend. Applying a 5% band, today, commercial banks are allowed to trade at a ceiling rate of 25,171 VND/USD and a floor rate of 22,773 VND/USD.

The reference USD exchange rate was also reduced by 24 VND by the State Bank of Vietnam, bringing the range to 23,400 - 25,122 VND/USD (buy - sell).

The gap between the USD price in the free market and in banks is currently quite large. The USD buying price at banks is 1,000 VND lower and the USD selling price is also about 800 - 900 VND lower than the free market.

The US Dollar Index (measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies) at 2:30 p.m. on March 11 (Vietnam time) was at 102.74 points, up 0.03% from the previous session.
