BTO-On the morning of June 23, the provincial Center for Disease Control established a team to monitor a suspected death case due to hand, foot and mouth disease in La Gi town.

Accordingly, the team will investigate and monitor to determine the cause of death suspected of hand, foot and mouth disease in Tan Binh commune. At the same time, provide guidance on hand, foot and mouth disease prevention in the locality. In addition, La Gi Medical Center will conduct a retrospective investigation 2 weeks before the disease. The patient did not come into contact, eat or live with children suspected of having hand, foot and mouth disease. No cases of this disease have been detected within a 100 meter radius from the patient's house. About 2 months ago, the patient was bitten by a neighbor's dog and the dog could not be tracked. Through reviewing the patient's epidemiological history and clinical course, it was noted that there were risk factors for rabies.

Therefore, today, the team will investigate and monitor at La Gi Regional General Hospital, La Gi Medical Center and conduct field work in Tan Binh commune to consult and determine the cause of death of the patient.

Previously, La Gi Medical Center recorded a female patient, born in 2019, who died of suspected hand, foot and mouth disease. At 0:00 on June 19, 2023, the child showed symptoms of being startled, screaming, running away, and scratching herself. On the morning of June 19, her family took the child to a private clinic with a diagnosis of tonsillitis. In the afternoon of the same day, the child was examined at La Gi Regional General Hospital with a diagnosis of functional dyspepsia, anorexia, and given a prescription to buy on her own. At 11:30 p.m., the patient did not take medicine, did not drink water, screamed, and ran away. Her family took the patient to La Gi Regional General Hospital. Clinical symptoms recorded at the hospital included fever, mouth ulcers, and convulsions; hand, foot and mouth disease was diagnosed at level 2B and was transferred to a higher level. And at 4:00 a.m. on June 20, 2023, the patient died on the way to the hospital. The hospital diagnosed suspected hand, foot and mouth disease level 4.
