Keeping land and profession from a correct policy

The National Assembly has just passed a resolution on extending the exemption of agricultural land use tax until December 31, 2030. This is a practical decision that not only helps reduce financial burdens, but also creates more motivation for farmers to continue to stick with the land, promoting sustainable agricultural production in the challenging context of climate change, market fluctuations and urbanization.

The policy of exempting agricultural land use tax, with an estimated exempted amount of about VND 7,500 billion per year nationwide, is a testament to the strong commitment to directly supporting farmers as the core force in the country's development.

In Thai Nguyen , farmers often have to face fluctuations in market prices, high material costs and heavy impacts from natural disasters such as storms, floods, etc. The continued exemption from agricultural land use tax helps them save a significant amount to reinvest in their fields, from land improvement, buying new crop varieties, to expanding production. This is the foundation for improving productivity, quality of agricultural products, and increasing income.

Financial savings from the tax exemption policy also open up opportunities to access modern irrigation technology, high-quality crop varieties and environmentally friendly farming methods, in line with the trend of clean and organic agricultural development. In particular, for households growing specialty tea, this policy is even more meaningful when it creates conditions to improve product quality, better meeting domestic and international market demand. The Thai Nguyen tea brand therefore has more opportunities to expand further.

Besides its economic value, the policy of exempting agricultural land use tax also has profound social implications, encouraging people to "stick to the land and fields", contributing to preserving rural livelihoods and ensuring national food security in the long term.

However, tax exemption does not mean “unconditional incentives”. The 2024 Land Law clearly stipulates: If land for annual crops or aquaculture is not used continuously for 12 months, land for perennial crops is not used for 18 months, or land for forestry is not used for 24 months, it will be punished or even revoked. This demonstrates both the strictness of the law and the requirement that comes with incentives is the responsibility to exploit and use land effectively.

In other words, the tax exemption policy is a lever, but its effectiveness depends on the farmers themselves. Tax exemption is to keep land, but keeping land is for farming, to get rich from agriculture. When there are more conditions and motivation, people need to proactively change their thinking, improve production skills, apply scientific and technological advances to production and develop modern agricultural economic models.

The extension of the agricultural land use tax exemption until 2030 is a correct, timely and appropriate policy. It is not only material support but also spiritual encouragement for farmers to continue to stick with their land and agricultural production as the mainstay of the country's economy.
