Thousands of Styrofoam buoys drifted ashore in Co To district

Specifically, on August 5-6, at Tinh Yeu beach (Co To district), the number of foam buoys drifted ashore, stretching about 7 km of coastline.

According to initial verification by the People's Committee of Co To District, this phenomenon is due to neighboring localities of Quang Ninh Province such as Van Don District, Cam Pha City, Quang Yen Town, Ha Long City simultaneously launching a campaign to relocate and clear aquaculture areas at sea, especially in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. However, the dismantling process has not been strictly controlled, so many people spontaneously cut the ropes, causing the foam buoys to drift freely on the sea, following the water currents and tides to drift into the waters of Co To District.

The number of foam buoys drifting ashore on Co To beach, about 7 km long, makes tourists fed up.

Immediately after discovering the incident, Co To District directed the authorities to coordinate with the people to urgently collect and handle the foam buoys and floating materials that flooded the beach; at the same time, ensure the proper handling of foam buoys. In just the past 3 days, nearly 2,000 people have participated in cleaning up foam buoys and garbage along the coast of Co To District.

Through verification by the People's Committee of Co To District, these foam buoys were from aquaculture activities from neighboring areas that were thrown at sea and were washed here by waves.
