On the evening of January 25, Mr. Vo Truong Giang, Head of Road Management Office II.3 (under Road Management Area 2, Vietnam Road Administration), said that the impact of cold air and prolonged rain caused a landslide on National Highway 8A to Cau Treo International Border Gate.

The incident occurred at around 4:00 p.m. the same day, when 1,000 cubic meters of rock and soil collapsed, blocking National Highway 8A.

The landslide is located at km82+286, Eo Co Gai bridge, through Son Kim 1 commune (Huong Son district, Ha Tinh ). The landslide is still ongoing. The incident has completely paralyzed traffic on the road to Laos.

Having information, Road Management Office II.3 coordinated with Traffic Police and Border Guard forces to place warning signs and send forces to be on duty to regulate traffic.

Currently, the weather in the area is unfavorable, with thick fog so authorities have not been able to reach the scene.

It is expected that on the morning of January 26, the authorities will be able to send personnel, machinery, and vehicles to clear the scene.

Eo Co Gai is a location where landslides often occur. National Highway 8A is being handed over to Project Management Board 4 (under the Vietnam Road Administration) for upgrading and expansion. The project has a total investment of more than 1,660 billion VND, from the State budget.
