In less than two weeks, the 2023 Women's World Cup will officially kick off in New Zealand and Australia. The Portuguese women's team is in Group E with the US, the Netherlands and Vietnam.

The Portuguese women's team will play against the Netherlands on July 23, then 4 days later will meet the Vietnamese women's team before entering the final decisive match against the United States.

Notably, French-Portuguese defender Morgane Martins expects the Portuguese women's team to play well to get past the group stage when sharing on RFI channel.

Morgane Martins said: "For the first time participating in the historic tournament, Portugal fell into a difficult group with two teams that have qualified for the World Cup final, the United States and the Netherlands.

Obviously, getting through the group stage will be very difficult. But I hope the Portuguese team will perform well against very strong opponents. Portugal will have great matches without necessarily feeling pressure because they are not highly rated in the group."

Notably, the 25-year-old defender also expressed caution against the Vietnamese women's team, even though they are the easiest opponent in Group E. Morgane Martins shared: "The Vietnamese women's team is probably the team that is most within Portugal's reach, but I think they are capable of getting good results against any team."

It should be added that Morgane Martins is currently a player for Dijon FC in the French Second Division. However, she has never played for the French or Portuguese women's national teams.

Regarding the choice of who will be the brightest team to win the 2023 World Cup, Morgane Martins commented: "I think there are a number of teams that are bright candidates.

The US women's team is always in the semi-finals and England will also be a formidable opponent at this World Cup even though they have some injured players... I also can't forget that Japan always shows good form."

As for the Vietnamese women's team, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team arrived in World Cup co-host New Zealand and had their first training session on July 6.

Here, Huynh Nhu and her teammates will play two friendly matches with the New Zealand women's team (July 10) and the Spanish women's team (July 14).

Meanwhile, the Portuguese women's team will also have an important "practice" against the Ukrainian women's team on July 7, before leaving for New Zealand.
