“I just heard about this information,” coach Mano Polking responded when asked about being on the list of candidates for the position of head coach of the Singapore team.
After coach Tsutomu Ogura resigned at the end of June due to "personal reasons", the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has been actively searching for a replacement. Among the names being considered for the vacant hot seat, coach Mano Polking is the leading candidate.
It is known that FAS is impressed with the extensive resume of the German-Brazilian coach. At the national team level, he helped Thailand win the AFF Cup twice in a row in 2020 and 2022. At the club level, Polking also made his mark in many regional teams before coming to work in Vietnam.
However, the 49-year-old strategist has turned down the invitation from Singapore. “I am very happy to know that FAS appreciates me. But I still have a contract here and have a very good relationship with the president (CAHN). The president is someone who also has a good relationship with FAS. I can only say that if one day the president tells me: 'Mano, it's time for you to leave', then I will consider leaving,” Mr. Polking affirmed.
Currently, Coach Polking is preparing with CAHN for the National Super Cup match against Nam Dinh on August 9. The police team has a strong reinforcement in terms of force, with the participation of many quality new recruits. Among them, two overseas Vietnamese players, Adou Minh and Brandon Ly, are the faces that receive the most attention.
