On June 25, a curfew was imposed in two cities in northern Honduras, after more than 20 people were shot dead since the night of June 24.

Mr. Edgardo Barahona, spokesman for the Honduran police force, announced that on the night of June 24, a group of people opened fire in a billiards club in the industrial city of Choloma, killing a total of 11 people and seriously injuring 3 others.
Meanwhile, in the Valle de Sula region of northern Honduras, 11 others were killed in a series of shootings in the key industrial city of San Pedro Sula.
Immediately afterwards, Honduran President Xiomara Castro declared a curfew in the city of Choloma for 15 days, starting on June 25, from 9:00 p.m. the previous day to 4:00 a.m. the next morning (local time).
A curfew in San Pedro Sula city has been in effect since July 4. The Honduran government has mobilized all its forces to investigate the above incidents.
In addition, the Honduran government also offered a reward of 800,000 Lempira (about 32,707 USD) to capture the suspects who carried out the shooting in the city of Choloma.
Since December last year, in order to prevent the escalation of violence, the Honduran government has begun declaring a state of emergency in some localities.
Gang violence is a major problem in Honduras. Along with neighboring El Salvador and Guatemala, Honduras forms the “triangle of death” in Central America, where deadly gangs control drug trafficking and organized crime.
This is also the main reason why the death toll in Honduras has skyrocketed, with a rate of 40 murders per 100,000 people last year, four times higher than the world average.
