Instructions for vehicle registration after July 1

In order to implement the policy of rearranging and reorganizing administrative units at all levels, the Ministry of Public Security has provided guidance to local police on vehicle registration.

Accordingly, all commune-level police and traffic police departments shall register automobiles, specialized motorbikes, and motorcycles of domestic organizations and individuals headquartered and residing in provinces and centrally-run cities.

People or organizations that need to register cars, motorbikes, and specialized motorbikes can choose to register their vehicles at the Traffic Police Department or any commune-level police station in the province or city where they reside or have headquarters. Vehicles that are confiscated must be registered at the Traffic Police Department.

Particularly for communes where a part of the administrative boundary is separated and merged with many new commune-level administrative units, while waiting for the completion of population data, vehicle registration for organizations and individuals in that commune will be carried out by the Traffic Police Department.

Regarding local license plate symbols after the merger, they include license plate symbols of the merged localities.

License plates with local codes will retain the name issued before after the merger (For example: Hung Yen province: 89, Ninh Binh province: 35, Dong Thap province 66), An Giang province alone will be issued code 68.

After all these license plate symbols are issued, the remaining symbols will be issued from low to high.
