According to local authorities, more than 900 farmers have to cross the river every day to go to work, but there are only two boats, which often leads to overloading.

Zamfara state is also plagued by criminal gangs seeking control of its mineral resources and has been severely affected by flooding, which displaced more than 10,000 residents two weeks ago.
