While the match was still in progress, social media was flooded with images of U23 Vietnam’s water bottles covering an area outside the sidelines. This somewhat hindered U23 Indonesia’s throw-ins.
In the post-match press conference, coach Kim Sang Sik denied that this was a trick by his team. He affirmed that the coaching staff arranged the water bottles only to make it easier for the players, not to make things difficult for the Indonesian team.
However, regional football fans still believe that this is the "unique trick" of the Korean coach.

On the ASEAN Football forum, a fan with the nickname anusemouse commented: "Maybe this is not very suitable for the spirit of sportsmanship . But you have to admit that this behavior is not wrong at all. It is really smart, and it is a pity that Indonesia did not deal with this trick."
Another fan wrote: "Indonesia spend a lot of time on throw-ins. It's more of a psychological trick than a tactical attack. And they have to accept it when the opponent uses a clever way to limit it."
The ASEAN Football website even headlined: "How to counter Indonesia's throw-in. See how Vietnam does it."
Even the Indonesian media was not happy with Indonesia's throw-in. Although effective at times, it was considered to be too time-consuming. It disrupted the game, and especially left the home team vulnerable to counterattacks.
Bola newspaper commented: "Look, these throw-ins are repeated over and over again, and Vietnam has studied them. They even take the ball and counterattack, many times U23 Indonesia was pushed into a dangerous situation after a throw-in."
"Stackling water bottles" is just one way of thinking for fans. In fact, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team clearly have a tactical plan to effectively defend against the extremely strong throw-ins of the U23 Indonesian players.
In reality, U23 Indonesia only wasted time and was often counter-attacked every time they missed a throw-in.
