US President Donald Trump has invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House on February 4.

The Guardian reported on January 29 that in the invitation, President Trump stated: “I am honored to welcome you as the first foreign leader to visit during my second term.” Mr. Trump invited Prime Minister Netanyahu to the US to “discuss ways to bring peace to Israel and its neighbors, and to discuss efforts to fight common adversaries.”

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office also confirmed that the meeting between Mr. Netanyahu and Mr. Trump will take place on February 4.

According to The Times of Israel , the key issues in the bilateral meeting will include the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages between Israel and Hamas, which took effect on January 19. Trump's special envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff is said to have had tense discussions with Prime Minister Netanyahu about the ceasefire before President Trump took office on January 20.

Mr Trump said he was “not sure” the Gaza ceasefire would hold. Under the terms, Israel and Hamas will soon negotiate a lasting peace, something observers fear could lead to a resumption of hostilities. Israeli media reported that Washington was expected to make proposals that could hopefully persuade Mr Netanyahu to maintain the ceasefire.

Several Israeli officials told Israel's Kan television that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will discuss regional issues with Mr. Trump, such as the situation in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran and the process of normalizing Israel-Saudi Arabia relations.

Recently, on January 25, Mr. Trump ordered the military to lift the ban on supplying bombs weighing more than 900 kg to Israel, a ban that was imposed by former US President Joe Biden last year.
