Ms. Amirah Nadiah Mazlan - Director of the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Agency Office in Vietnam - said that after a year of strong recovery, the country's tourism industry is aiming to welcome 35.6 million international tourists, generating tourism revenue of up to RM147.1 billion (equivalent to USD32.5 billion) in 2025.

In the Vietnamese market alone, the number of target visitors also increased sharply, reaching 489,000 visitors compared to the number of 330,189 Vietnamese tourists to Malaysia last year.

"The year 2024 marks important milestones in efforts to promote Malaysian tourism in Vietnam, one of Malaysia's key markets, with positive results," said Ms. Amirah Nadiah Mazlan.

Tourism in Malaysia and Vietnam is considered vibrant, associated with direct flights connected since the pandemic.

In 2025, the Malaysian tourism industry will continue to expand promotional activities in the Vietnamese market, including participating in international tourism fairs and exhibitions in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and coordinating with leading airlines, travel companies and online travel agents to launch promotional campaigns.

The Malaysian tourism representative office in Ho Chi Minh City will also further strengthen marketing campaigns to stimulate Malaysian tourism through coordination with strategic partners.

In addition, Malaysia becoming ASEAN Chair in 2025 will create more favorable conditions for Malaysia to promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges....

There will also be more activities promoting Malaysian cuisine and culture, to bring a more direct and in-depth experience to visitors.

Last year, Malaysia recorded more than 25 million international tourist arrivals, the largest group being from Singapore with 9.1 million arrivals, followed by Indonesia (3.65 million), China (3.29 million), Thailand (1.64 million) and Brunei (1.14 million).

Currently, the country's national airline, Malaysia Airlines, operates a direct flight route from Da Nang to Kuala Lumpur with 7 flights/week, and Vietjet also opens a direct flight route from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur with 7 flights/week.

Vietnam's leading regional tourism market

On the other hand, Malaysia is an important source of Muslim tourists to Vietnam, with remarkable growth.

Last year, Vietnam welcomed a total of 495,000 tourists from Malaysia, making Malaysia the 7th largest source market for tourists to Vietnam.

However, the recovery rate of the Malaysian market compared to 2019 only reached 82%, lower than many other markets in the Southeast Asian region.
