Mexico recruits workers from Central America

According to the latest announcement by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the country is building a mechanism to grant short-term visas to citizens of Central American countries to join the workforce at infrastructure construction projects in the country.

The surprise move is aimed at addressing the labor shortage. The mechanism, which is expected to be finalized this week, will prioritize visas for skilled workers in welding, metalworking, and bridge engineering.

In addition, workers from Central America will also work on several refinery construction projects along the Gulf of Mexico coast, as well as participate in the Corredor Interoceánico - Istmo de Tehuantepec economic belt construction project.
