The incident began at around 6:45 p.m. on July 30 and was resolved at 2:43 a.m. on July 31. According to media reports, the incident affected water suppliers, courts, banks and many other organizations.

Microsoft confirmed that the company initially observed unexpected usage spikes that caused Azure Front Door and Azure Content Delivery Network components to operate below acceptable thresholds, causing latency, errors, and timeouts.

The investigation found that the DDoS attack triggered the defense mechanism, but implementation errors in the defense systems amplified the impact of the attack instead of mitigating it.

Microsoft has committed to releasing a preliminary review within 72 hours to share more details about what happened and lessons learned from the incident.

Previously, another incident caused by a change in Azure configuration in the early afternoon of September 17 (Vietnam time) caused thousands of Windows computers to experience the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) problem when booting, affecting banks, airlines, television stations, supermarkets and businesses worldwide .
