Many students said that the Math test in the 2025 National High School Exam was quite difficult. At some testing sites, candidates burst into tears when looking back at this test.
Nguyen Yen Nhi (Yen Hoa High School, Cau Giay, Hanoi) said that this year's Math exam was quite difficult, with many strange questions compared to the Math exams she had studied, consulted from sources on the Internet, reference books, and school exams. Yen Nhi shared: "I could only do about 80% of this year's Math exam, there were two questions about probability that were very difficult, I could not think of the answers within the exam time."
Candidates enter the final exam day
Candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program will take part in 4 exam sessions: 1 Literature session, 1 Math session, 1 optional exam session (Natural Science or Social Science) and 1 Foreign Language exam session. Candidates studying the 2018 General Education Program will take the high school graduation exam with 4 subjects: 2 compulsory subjects (Literature, Math) and 2 optional subjects from grade 12 subjects (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic & Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology). Candidates will take the exam in 3 sessions: 1 Literature session, 1 Math session, 1 session for 2 optional subjects. Literature is an essay test of 120 minutes (Reading comprehension 4 points, Writing 6 points); Math is a multiple-choice test of 90 minutes; the remaining subjects are multiple-choice for 50 minutes.
Nguyen Minh Duc (Multi-Intelligence High School, Cau Giay, Hanoi) said that this year's Math exam has a high level of differentiation. Easy questions account for about 40 - 50%, candidates who want to get a good score or higher need to have a solid grasp of the knowledge and flexible thinking to be able to complete 80 - 90% of the exam. Minh Duc shared: "I predict that I got about 50% of the exam right, the two true - false questions (questions 1, 3) in my exam were quite difficult, I could not find a solution for this part".
Commenting on the exam, a teacher from the Math group of Hocmai Education System commented: The 2025 high school graduation exam for Math was built according to the structure and format announced in the reference exam of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), in line with the innovation orientation.
With a duration of 90 minutes, the exam consists of 3 parts with 34 questions. The exam has clear differentiation and diverse question formats, requiring candidates to master knowledge and skills according to the 2018 General Education Program, especially the ability to relate to reality. The knowledge content focuses on the 12th grade program and still has knowledge sections from grades 10 and 11; the thinking level is 40% at the knowledge level, 30% at the understanding level and 30% at the application level. The highlight of the exam is that the questions have integrated elements, using meaningful contexts associated with images and practical situations in life, science and technology (such as economic problems, engineering, etc.) account for a large proportion, focusing on the form of true/false multiple choice questions and short answer multiple choice questions. In addition, the questions in these two parts have a good level of differentiation, requiring learners to have a good grasp of skills, a good knowledge base, and know how to connect knowledge in the knowledge chains they have learned to process. This is completely consistent with the objective of the exam.
Literature exam sends message about the Fatherland
At the exam site of Truong Cong Giai Secondary School, Cau Giay, Hanoi, many candidates commented that this year's Literature exam did not rely on rote learning. The majority of students had difficulty analyzing and finding appropriate materials for question 2 of Part II (Writing).

Le Minh Khoi (Luong The Vinh High School, Hanoi) said that this year's Literature exam was relatively easy for him, but Khoi had difficulty with the second question of the Writing section (Part II). He shared: "In the 600-word essay question, I spent the most time reading, understanding the question and applying the knowledge I learned at school and understanding society to do the test. With the Literature exam for the 2025 National High School Exam, I am about 70% confident that I will achieve the desired score."
Nguyen Duc Duy (Hermann Gmeiner School, Hanoi) shared that the 2025 Literature exam, Reading Comprehension (Part I) is suitable for the majority of candidates. According to Duc Duy, as long as you have a solid grasp of basic knowledge, you can complete this part completely. Like Minh Khoi, Duc Duy felt that question 2, Writing part was the most difficult. He said: “With the topic of the sky of every homeland is the sky of the Fatherland, it is a good topic, but it made me think for a long time to avoid going off topic. I only did about 70% of my ability.”
Nguyen Ngoc Mai (Cau Giay High School, Hanoi) shared that for the Reading Comprehension section (part I), the text in the test used the work "Different Skylands" by writer Nguyen Minh Chau. This is a good text, easy to understand, suitable for students' abilities. For the Writing section (part II), the argumentative question was relatively difficult, Ngoc Mai said: "Compared to the mock exams and the questions I have done at school, the argumentative question was quite strange. It took me more than half of my time just to do this question. I myself am not confident that I will achieve the best score as expected". However, Ngoc Mai shared that she did her best in the Literature exam.

Candidates finish the first day of the 2025 National High School Exam. |
Commenting on the exam, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh, a Literature teacher at Tuyensinh247.com, said: The 2025 high school graduation exam generally follows the structure of the sample exam previously announced by the Ministry of Education and Training. However, this year's exam has many innovations compared to the 2024 exam, especially in terms of language materials. This year's exam is in line with the spirit of general education in 2018 when the questions follow the genre system, which solves the problem of memorization and cramming, requiring students to have a firm grasp of knowledge about the characteristics of the genres, and assess the reading comprehension, perception, and analysis abilities of each student. In terms of level, the exam is highly differentiated, accurately assessing the abilities of students. Commenting on the general score range, Ms. Quynh Anh predicts that the average score of Literature in 2025 will be 6.5 - 7. The highest score a candidate can achieve is 7.5 points.
At the same time, Ms. Vuong Thuy Hang, a teacher at the Hocmai Education System, expressed that the Literature exam brings a lot of excitement, opportunities and challenges to candidates. It can be said that the biggest difference of the Literature exam in the 2025 exam is that the materials for the Reading and Writing questions do not use texts from all three current textbooks. With this exam, Ms. Hang predicts that the average score this year will be between 7 and 7.25 points.
From the perspective of parents on the first day of taking their children to the exam, they all want their children to complete the exam to the best of their ability. Ms. Thuy, Nguyen Yen Nhi's parent, shared that before an exam with many innovations, broader and more open knowledge, she did not put too much emphasis on the score for her child. She confided: "The 2018 general education program has many changes in the structure of the exam. Today's Literature and Math exams showed that children need to practice more on thinking and how to apply knowledge. But no matter what the result is, as long as the children try their best, that is the best thing"...
Ho Chi Minh City: Many students are confident with their Literature exam results.
In Ho Chi Minh City, from early morning, candidates moved to the exam locations to prepare for the exam, the first day of the exam. Many students said that although their homes were only about 6km from the exam location, they still left early, at 5:45 am, because they were afraid of traffic jams or other incidents. Upon arrival, the students were guided enthusiastically by the exam support team and teachers to complete the procedures. Many parents accompanied the students and waited outside the school to encourage them to do well on the exam.
After finishing the first exam, many students were worried that the exam was a bit difficult for them, even though the Literature exam was similar to the reference exam that the Ministry of Education and Training had announced earlier. On the contrary, some students smiled and said that they did well on the exam, the exam was familiar, there were questions that evoked patriotism, right in their locker.
“I have reviewed quite carefully so I did well on this subject. I think I got over 6 points and maybe even 7 points. The reading passage from the work of writer Nguyen Minh Chau was relatively easy to understand. The ideas in the passage were expressed quite clearly. I did well on this part,” said candidate Nguyen Minh Bang, class 12C2, Binh Chieu High School (Thu Duc).
At the gate of Truong Chinh High School (District 12), many parents came to pick up their children early, encouraging them to be happy so that they could be mentally comfortable for the next exam. Here, the exam support team distributed drinks to the candidates, guided and advised them for the next exam.
