The My Son temple complex was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in 1999. My Son is a typical example, with an indigenous society adapting to outside influences, notably the Hindu architectural art of the Indian subcontinent.

This relic is a tourist destination for religious sightseeing, exploring unique and attractive cultural history and architectural art; and is located in a complex of forest, mountain, stream and ecological environment typical of the mountainous region of Central Vietnam.

The remaining destinations suggested by Wanderlust in the list include: Thien Mu Pagoda (Hue City), One Pillar Pagoda (Hanoi City), Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi City), Huong Pagoda (Hanoi City), Ngoc Hoang Pagoda (Ho Chi Minh City), Thich Quang Duc Memorial (Ho Chi Minh City), Bai Dinh Pagoda (Ninh Binh), Tam Chuc Pagoda (Ha Nam), Van Thuy Tu Palace ( Binh Thuan ), Cao Dai Holy See (Tay Ninh).

According to Wanderlust, the works on the list demonstrate cultural life in religion, with the interweaving of indigenous Vietnamese culture with India and China; some of which are World Heritage Sites recognized by UNESCO.
