Speaking at a European Policy Center event in Brussels on November 25, Admiral Rob Bauer called on NATO businesses to help ensure that all key services and production of goods are operational in any situation. According to him, this is an important key to allowing NATO to effectively use deterrence measures.

"We are seeing more and more acts of sabotage, and Europe is facing that in the energy supply sector," Reuters quoted Admiral Bauer as saying.

The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee has issued a warning regarding threats from countries such as Russia and China.

For example, Admiral Bauer noted that the West is dependent on supplies coming from China, with 60% of all rare earth materials produced and 90% of the materials processed in the East Asian country.

China is also a supplier of chemical ingredients used in sedatives, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and blood pressure treatments.

The admiral noted that business leaders in Europe and the US need to realize that the commercial decisions they make will have strategic consequences for the national security of these countries.

"Businesses need to be prepared for wartime scenarios and adjust their production and distribution chains accordingly. That's because while victory on the battlefield may depend on the military, it is the economy that wins wars," the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee concluded.
