Thai Nguyen tea industry aims for billion USD target

DNVN - Thai Nguyen province has set an ambitious goal: to develop the tea industry to reach a total value of VND25,000 billion by 2030. To realize this goal, the province is implementing a series of comprehensive policies, focusing on attracting investment, applying high technology and building brands.

When implemented, the new policy will contribute to attracting investment, promoting chain production, applying science , technology, innovation, and digital transformation in tea production, processing, and trading.

The new policy will support people and businesses in many aspects, from production to consumption, including: Tea planting; certification of good agricultural practices VietGAP, other GAP; production meeting organic standards; building and certifying quality management systems; granting codes for tea growing areas; applying water-saving and smart irrigation systems in tea production; purchasing machinery and equipment in tea production and processing; registering for intellectual property protection; developing tea products and products from tea trees certified to meet OCOP standards; promoting, building brands, promoting trade and consumption of tea products and products from tea trees; developing community-ecological tourism associated with tea production areas.
In particular, tea growers will be supported 100% of the cost of buying seeds; one-time support of 70% of the cost of buying fertilizer. When planting according to VIETGAP process and organic standards with a minimum area of 5 hectares, growers will be supported 100% of the cost of first-time certification of meeting standards...
Thai Nguyen is the province with the largest tea area, productivity and output in the country. After the merger, Thai Nguyen province has nearly 24,000 hectares of tea, of which the tea area for products is nearly 23,000 hectares, the average tea yield is nearly 18 tons/ha; there are 207 processed tea products certified with OCOP from 3 to 5 stars. The province strives for the total value of products obtained from tea trees to reach 25 trillion VND by 2030.
Previously, in February 2025, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee (old) issued a thematic resolution on tea industry development for the period 2025 - 2030, setting out 4 specific target groups including: improving product quality; developing tea area and output; developing export markets, especially demanding markets such as Europe, the US and Japan; developing tea tourism such as connecting tourism with tea production, exploiting the potential of eco-tourism, and tea experience to enhance the value of Thai Nguyen tea brand.
The new policy is expected to create a strong driving force, helping Thai Nguyen tea industry develop comprehensively, not only contributing to the province's major economic goals but also being an important part of the new rural construction program.
