Bustling Cham melodies

On the evening of July 31, the coastal park area opposite Tue Tinh Street (Nha Trang Ward) became more bustling and vibrant with the appearance of artists, singers, actors, and musicians from the Traditional Arts Theater to perform the street art performance program "Back to the Heritage Land". In the street art performance schedule of the unit built from the beginning of 2025, this activity was only performed by two art troupes: Tuong and Dan ca bai choi. However, after merging art units, the Traditional Arts Theater has built an additional street art performance program with Cham cultural colors. The night's performance attracted many people, tourists, especially Russian and Korean guests... to watch.

The bustling sounds of Paranung drums, Ghinang drums, Saranai trumpets; graceful and charming Cham dances; deep and lyrical folk songs... brought the audience their own feelings about the cultural beauty of the Cham community in their homeland of Khanh Hoa, from the vibrant festival atmosphere in Cham villages; the silhouette of ancient Cham towers; the living and working scenes of diligent and hardworking Cham people; the spirit of solidarity of Cham people with other ethnic communities. “These performances are all very special. Although I don’t fully understand the meaning of each performance, through the language of music , choreography, costumes, props… they really left an impression on me,” said Ms. Ekaterina (a Russian tourist).

Efforts to diversify activities

The program "Back to the Heritage Land" by artists from the Traditional Arts Theater brought the audience to the beauty of Cham culture through music and dance connecting the past to the present, from tradition to the contemporary. In the heart of the city, everyone was immersed in the unique spiritual cultural heritage of the Cham people. The program was performed in the form of street art to serve the people and tourists, so the performances were all staged with a fast tempo, expressing excitement and a joyful spirit. Through that, the audience enjoyed meaningful art performances and learned more about the beauty of Cham folk art. “We have been practicing these acts recently to perform for the audience. This is the first time I have participated in a street art performance and I am very happy to receive enthusiastic support and encouragement from the audience. In the future, I and the artists in the unit hope to perform for more audiences, not only in Nha Trang but also in other localities in the province,” singer Han Van Khanh shared.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ai Quoc - Director of the Traditional Arts Theater, after the merger of administrative units, the cultural and artistic space of Khanh Hoa province has become richer, more diverse and more unique. Exploiting and putting on performances of traditional and folk cultural colors to serve the audience is the responsibility of the collective unit. Currently, the theater has performing arts such as Tuong stage, Bai Choi folk opera, Cham folk, and light music. In the orientation of future activities, the unit will try to organize street art performances according to the annual plan. In addition, the theater will also build more art performances about Raglai culture with typical performances such as: Lithophone, Chapi, Ma La, folk singing, folk dance... In addition to the street stage in Nha Trang ward, the unit will research to perform street performances at a suitable location in the southern region of Khanh Hoa .

With efforts to diversify street art performances in terms of type, quality, and cultural color of the performances, audiences, especially tourists, have the opportunity to learn about many typical art forms in Khanh Hoa province. From there, contributing to promoting and introducing the local cultural identity to friends near and far.
