Vietnamese people still love old iPhones

Good price, while still full of modern features, helps old iPhone models continuously enter the group of devices with good sales in many mobile systems in Vietnam.

The iPhone is the most popular smartphone line in Vietnam, although there have been no significant breakthroughs in design or features over the years. But this is also what helps older iPhone models attract customers because they are not much inferior to newer models, while having a much better price.

Among the best-selling older iPhone models in domestic mobile retail systems, the iPhone 13 and 15 are often chosen by users. According to a report from market research firm Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 15 is also one of the best-selling smartphones in the world in the first 3 months of 2025, even though this device was released in 2023.

According to an Apple authorized dealer (AAR) in Vietnam, the old iPhone, especially the 15 model, is still selling well, accounting for a significant proportion of the system's monthly sales. Compared to the iPhone 13, the "younger brother" model launched after 2 years has many advantages, from camera quality, elegant color options, good configuration while the design is not much different, the price is only slightly different by a few million VND.

Specifically, the standard version of the iPhone 15 with 128 GB capacity has a reference price of 15.5 million VND, while the iPhone 13 is more than 11 million VND and the iPhone 14 is less than 13 million VND. "Older iPhones such as the 13, 14, and 15 generations are still a choice worth considering for customers. This trio accounts for about 35% of iPhone sales in our second quarter," shared a media representative of another AAR.

Standard iPhones that are about 3-4 years old are still being produced and distributed by Apple to different markets, including Vietnam - one of the countries with continuously growing iPhone consumption. On the contrary, every time the company launches a new generation, the Pro and Pro Max duo from the previous year will stop production and only be sold until the inventory runs out.

Compared to the more expensive and increasingly rare iPhone Pro series, the regular iPhone or Plus version is popular thanks to its hardware that meets basic needs well today, has a more accessible price, is often adjusted down or enjoys incentives from sellers, e-commerce platforms...

Old iPhones compete with new ones

On the official shelves, although they do not "compete" with newly launched devices like the iPhone 16 series, older iPhone generations are directly competing with the iPhone 16e - a new low-cost phone model from Apple that has not received significant attention from users. In fact, iPhone 15 sales are even higher than iPhone 16e, despite the fact that the new model has certain advantages.

Specifically, the cheap iPhone 16e still supports running Apple Intelligence while the iPhone 13, 14, and 15 do not. However, users still have reasons to ignore this factor when Apple's artificial intelligence is still just a promise, has not achieved any significant results, if not to say that it is the slowest among the major brands on the market today. Other factors such as newer hardware, highly rated battery life... are not enough to convince users to spend money even though the iPhone 16e is only a few hundred thousand dong more expensive than the iPhone 15.

To make up for the lack of Apple Intelligence, the iPhone 15 has an ultra-wide-angle camera and is compatible with MagSafe wireless charging - factors that directly impact the daily experience of the owner. Support for MagSafe also makes the iPhone 13, 14, and 15 compatible with more accessories and peripherals than the iPhone 16e.
