Ho Chi Minh City welcomes 348,239 Japanese tourists in 2024. Japan is in the top 6 international tourist markets to Ho Chi Minh City.
This information was given at the Japan Tourism Conference 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City on March 7.
At the workshop, Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said that over the past 50 years, the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan has been continuously strengthened and developed comprehensively in all fields, thereby creating favorable conditions for the two countries to promote tourism cooperation.
Notably, in 2024, Vietnam welcomed 711,464 tourists from Japan, with Ho Chi Minh City alone welcoming 348,239 Japanese tourists in 2024. This result helped Japan enter the top 6 international tourist markets to Ho Chi Minh City.
"Japan is always in the top markets for international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City; the top international markets for most searches about Vietnam tourism and the top most favorite destinations for Vietnamese people in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular. Conversely, Vietnam is also in the top 10 markets for international visitors to Japan last year," said Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu.
Also at the Workshop, delegates assessed the role of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro Line 1 project, with active support from the Japanese Government and enterprises, which has just officially entered commercial operation.
According to Ms. Matsumoto Fumi - Chief Representative of Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam, this event marked a turning point in the process of transforming the urban traffic model of Ho Chi Minh City, marking a new milestone in the close cooperation relationship between the two nations.
In addition to Metro Line 1, the current flight route between Ho Chi Minh City and Japan, with a frequency of about 18 flights per day by Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, All Nippon Airways, and Japan Airlines, will be a condition for the two countries in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular to continue promoting tourism development in the coming time.
