Vietnam women's team wins with 17 goals to enter Asian finals

(NLDO) - The Vietnamese women's team ended the 2026 Asian Cup Women's Qualifiers with 3 wins, scoring 17 goals and conceding no goals against Guam, Maldives and UAE in Group E.

Immediately after the opening whistle of the final match of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers on the evening of July 5, the Vietnamese women's team completely dominated the match against Guam.

Coach Mai Duc Chung proactively let his players push up, creating strong pressure and quickly bringing home the opening goal in the 2nd minute. Huynh Nhu went down the right wing and crossed, Guam goalkeeper pushed the ball right to Nguyen Thi Van's position and she easily finished into the empty net.

In the 13th minute, Guam defender made a mistake in the penalty area, creating an opportunity for Bich Thuy to run in and shoot into the opponent's net, raising the score to 2-0.

In the 25th minute, after a pass from the right wing by Huynh Nhu, the Guam defender failed to clear the ball. The ball bounced right to Bich Thuy's feet, helping her complete her double, raising the score to 3-0 for Vietnam.

This is also the safe gap that the Vietnamese girls maintained until the end of the first half.

In the second half, captain Huynh Nhu continued to play energetically, constantly stirring up the opponent's defense and actively finishing. However, luck still did not smile on the number one striker of the Vietnamese team in this qualifying round. After many efforts, she was taken off for a break in the middle of the second half. Before being taken off for a break, both Huynh Nhu and Bich Thuy had more scoring opportunities, but the goalpost and crossbar denied their shots.

The only goal of this half came in the 73rd minute, Hai Yen scored to set the score at 4-0 for the match.

In the early match of Group E, UAE easily defeated Maldives with a score of 5-0.

With the results of the last two matches of Group E today, the Vietnamese women's team officially closed the qualifying round with the top spot in Group E, winning all 9 absolute points, scoring 17 goals. This achievement also helped coach Mai Duc Chung and his team win tickets to the 2026 Women's Asian Cup Finals in Australia.
