On August 26, Ms. Harris's campaign team demanded that both candidates' microphones be turned on throughout the debate, while Mr. Trump's team threatened to cancel the debate if ABC accepted this request. Harris's team said on August 27: "Both candidates have publicly expressed their acceptance of debates with open microphones throughout the event to allow for substantive exchanges at the highest level. However, it appears that Mr. Trump is letting his subordinates make decisions for him. Sad!"
