After Trump’s top pick for Attorney General Matt Gaetz withdrew due to controversy, the President-elect seems to be quickly putting the failure behind him as he continues to appoint new personnel for the upcoming administration. According to a summary by The Washington Post , Trump announced 9 choices on the evening of November 22 (yesterday morning, Vietnam time).

Finance Minister revealed

The most notable name among the nine choices is billionaire Scott Bessent, who has been nominated as Treasury Secretary. As a position with wide influence on economic issues and fifth in line to the presidency, the competition for the Treasury Secretary position has been fierce in recent days, according to Reuters. That is why Mr. Trump's choice for Treasury Secretary has attracted the attention not only of the business community on Wall Street but also from around the world.

Mr. Bessent (62 years old) is a veteran in the financial industry and has taught for many years at Yale University, advocating tax reform and removing regulations that hinder business development and control inflation. According to Reuters, some strategists positively evaluated this choice because Mr. Bessent is knowledgeable about the market and is not too aggressive about tariff policy, although he considers it a "negotiation tool with trade partners". The US Treasury Secretary also oversees other areas such as federal finance, banking, and international sanctions.

On the same day, Mr. Trump reappointed Mr. Russell Vought as Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget as in his first term. According to AFP, this is a powerful agency that helps decide the president's policy priorities and how to spend those policies. Mr. Vought is one of the co-authors of Project 2025, a far-right policy implementation plan to increase the power of the owner of the White House. Although Mr. Trump denied the accusations of being involved in this controversial project during the election period, many officials in his first administration were involved in the project and many of them have been appointed to positions in the next administration, including Mr. Brendan Carr, Tom Homan, John Ratcliffe, Stephen Miller, Pete Hoekstra.

Cabinet almost complete

Yesterday, President-elect Trump announced two new assistant positions for his upcoming term. According to The Hill , political commentator Sebastian Gorka was appointed as the White House's senior director of counterterrorism, while former diplomat Alex Wong was appointed as deputy national security adviser. Mr. Gorka was an advisor in Mr. Trump's first term administration and is said to have more than 30 years of experience in national security. Meanwhile, Mr. Wong served as Deputy Special Representative for the DPRK, helping to prepare for the US-North Korea summit, and later became Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific .

The remaining nominees include Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who has been nominated for Secretary of Labor, former Rep. Scott Turner for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, a physician and former Fox News medical expert, as the US Surgeon General, former Rep. Dave Weldon for Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Surgeon General Marty Makary for Director of the Food and Drug Administration. So far, Mr. Trump's cabinet only has the position of Secretary of Agriculture vacant, but the media predicts that the leader will soon announce his choice of former Senator Kelly Loeffler for this position.

Legal victory for Mr. Trump

New York Judge Juan Merchan on November 22 decided to indefinitely postpone Mr. Trump’s sentencing in the case of falsifying business records to hide payments to an adult film actress before the 2016 election, according to Fox News. The judge also allowed Mr. Trump’s side to make a new request to dismiss the case and gave prosecutors until December 9 to respond. Prosecutors agreed with the postponement but have stated their opposition to dismissing the case.
