(CLO) Two bodies were discovered in the wheel well of a JetBlue plane at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Florida (USA), after the plane landed last Monday evening.
Airport maintenance workers discovered the bodies while performing a technical inspection of the aircraft. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

“This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to assist in the investigation and to clarify the incident,” a JetBlue representative said. The identities of the two victims and how they gained access to the aircraft are still under investigation.
The incident is being investigated by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office’s crime scene investigation unit and criminal investigation team. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the incident did not involve the flight crew or the operation of the aircraft. Therefore, the agency is not involved in the investigation.
JetBlue Flight 1801 departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York at 7:49 p.m. Monday and landed at Fort Lauderdale Airport at 11:10 p.m. local time, according to flight tracking data.
Just a few weeks ago, another body was found in the wheel well of United Airlines Flight 202, a flight from Chicago to Kahului Airport, Maui, on Christmas Eve. The victim was identified as a man.
Attempting to sneak into the wheel well of an aircraft is dangerous due to the lack of oxygen and extremely low temperatures at cruising altitude. Such situations not only threaten the life of the stowaway but also pose a risk to aviation security.
