Mr. Josef Salek in the Czech Republic set the world record for the longest plank with 9 hours 38 minutes 47 seconds.

The previous record for longest plank was held by Australian Daniel Scali at 9 hours 30 minutes 1 second. In this record-setting attempt, Salek beat the previous record by 8 minutes 46 seconds.

Mr. Salek is a therapist, lecturer and personal development coach. He completed this plank challenge on May 20 at the AVATAR festival held at the Park Hotel, Pilsen (Czech Republic).

After completing the challenge, Mr. Salek shared his experiences while planking. There were times when he found it really difficult.

During the first few hours, Mr. Salek seemed comfortable. But as time passed, the pain became more and more obvious. The most critical period was between the 7th and 8th hours.

"I started feeling dizzy, in severe pain, but I had faith in myself and people believed in me. Those strong emotions combined and helped me to successfully complete the goal," Mr. Salek shared.

Breaking this record was truly an incredible challenge. Because 5 years ago, Mr. Salek was 15 kg overweight, addicted to alcohol and cigarettes. Then, he decided to change by quitting drinking, quitting smoking, exercising and finally achieved this achievement.

Mr. Salek's record has been recognized by Guinness World Records. Mr. Salek planked for nearly 10 hours under the witness of Guinness World Records representative Mr. Jack Brockbank.

Immediately after completing the challenge, Mr. Salek popped champagne amid cheers from supporters. Guinness World Records also awarded a certificate to Mr. Salek shortly after, according to NDTV.

Plank is one of the most popular core exercises. In a plank, you rest your elbows and forearms on the floor while keeping your head, back, buttocks, and legs in a straight line. By holding this position for a long time, you train your core muscles, such as your back, abs, and hips, to increase strength and flexibility, according to Verywell Fit .
