Ritsu Doan creates unprecedented transfer milestone

Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt have reached an agreement to transfer Japanese midfielder Ritsu Doan in the summer of 2025.

According to Bild , the two Bundesliga clubs agreed on a basic transfer fee of around 21 million euros, with 1 million euros in additional fees that could arise. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano used the familiar phrase "Here we go" to confirm the deal was completed on the evening of August 6.

Doan immediately became the third most expensive player in Japanese football history. If nothing unexpected happens, the 27-year-old will become the first Japanese player in history to play for three different Bundesliga teams.

Ritsu Doan has 57 caps for Japan and has been an indispensable pillar for Freiburg in recent seasons. He has a total of 131 Bundesliga matches, scoring 27 goals in four seasons playing in Germany, including a loan spell at Arminia Bielefeld in the 2020/21 season.

Last season, Doan and his teammates regretted being so close to a Champions League ticket for the first time in history because they only finished 5th overall. As for Doan, he played extremely well.
