“Hanoi People, Stories of Eating and Drinking in the Past” Chinese edition produced by CHI Culture Joint Stock Company (Chibooks), copyright sold to Guangxi Science and Technology Publishing House, translated by Thanh Doa, published in China in November 2024.

The book goes back in time to the early years of the 20th century, to recall and explore how Hanoians ate, prepared and created cuisine, and how they responded to the new culinary colors introduced to the capital through East-West, South-North exchanges...

The combination of personal experience of a person born and raised in Hanoi with the meticulous and careful research of a researcher from documents, archaeological artifacts to "living" documents of the previous generation of grandparents, has brought readers a book full of documents that is still lively and very "real". Through the book, readers can feel the "depth" of Hanoi cuisine and Hanoi's cultural identity throughout the 20th century.

Speaking about the Chinese edition of “Hanoi People, Stories of Eating and Drinking in the Past” officially launched in China, author Vu The Long said: “I am currently working in the culinary field, so in my culinary association there are many Vietnamese-Chinese friends. They are very good at cooking Chinese dishes and have very good products. They also exchange, learn, and study with each other, such as distinguishing between Chinese and Vietnamese dishes, what is the difference, and many interesting stories. In this book, I wrote about that.”

The author expressed his hope that the stories in this book could introduce how Vietnamese people eat Chinese food in Vietnam and how Chinese food is different when brought to Vietnam compared to when it was in China...
