According to the latest announcement from Vietnam Airlines , during this time, the airline will temporarily suspend flights to and from Vinh airport.

To meet the travel needs of people in the North Central region, Vietnam Airlines will increase the frequency of flights to neighboring airports such as Noi Bai ( Hanoi ) and Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa). The adjustment is to ensure inter-regional connectivity in the context of an important aviation hub temporarily suspending operations.

Affected passengers will be supported to change their itinerary or refund their tickets free of charge depending on their needs. Vietnam Airlines recommends that passengers with flight plans related to Vinh airport during the above time actively update their schedules on the airline's official channels.

"The airline will coordinate and closely monitor with relevant units to update the repair progress, and proactively develop a plan to restore operations as soon as Vinh airport is qualified to resume operations, especially during the peak period at the end of the year," said a representative of Vietnam Airlines.

Vinh Airport was put into use in late 2003, currently has a runway 2,400m long, 45m wide, with a designed capacity of 2.75 million passengers per year. Each day, the airport serves 21 - 26 flights.

In July 2023, the airport had to close for nearly 16 hours due to a cracked asphalt concrete layer on about 40m2 of the runway. To ensure safety during operations, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) proposed temporarily closing Vinh airport to carry out comprehensive repairs, with a total investment of nearly 1,000 billion VND. ACV committed to completing the entire project by the end of 2025.
