The diplomatic crisis over Argentine President Javier Milei's statement against Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez led Madrid to withdraw its ambassador in Buenos Aires.

During a hearing before the House of Representatives, Argentine Cabinet Secretary Guillermo Francos emphasized: “Diplomatic relations with Spain are strategic, encompassing political , economic, cultural and cooperative relations with a long and deep history.”

Mr. Francos expressed in the report presented to the House of Representatives every six months that the relationship with Spain is "very broad, diverse, multidimensional, interdependent, with exchanges at different levels. Government, private and civil society actors of both countries interact dynamically".

The document of President Milei's administration states: "The friendly relations between Argentina and Spain are principles that remain valid and support the commitments to cooperate in all areas for the common good to promote the well-being of the people."

Buenos Aires rates Spain as the second largest investor in Argentina. According to 2021 statistics, there are nearly 329,000 Argentines residing in Spain. This European country also opens up to 5 consulates general in the South American country including Buenos Aires, Bahía Blanca, Cordoba, Mendoza and Rosario.

Asked whether the crisis with Madrid would affect relations with the European Union (EU), Mr. Francos assured that Argentina's relations with the EU are "solid and strong, with great potential for development."
