Game Jam brings together 7 student teams to participate in the challenge of designing and programming a game in 48 hours, under the guidance of lecturers from the Faculty of Computer Science & Technology.

With the theme Only one , teams were free to be creative from content to gameplay and graphics. The game On my last leg won first prize thanks to its unique idea: players control a one-legged character to escape from a chasing snail by dragging their legs through a humorous and engaging controller.

Mr. Le Manh Cuong - founder of Tale Weavers Studio, commented that this project has a clever combination of ideas and gameplay, taking advantage of the difficulty of control to create challenges. The students were very creative in choosing the snail - an image associated with slowness - to become an obsession for players.

Winning the Audience Choice Award, the space combat game One Shot is loved for its simple yet challenging gameplay. “In addition to the impressive storyline, the game is difficult enough to make you want to play again, creating a desire to conquer in players,” commented Mr. Tran Thanh Tung, founder of Board Game Vietnam.

Many other projects also show careful investment. Some teams are highly appreciated for the player experience factor such as Gambler's right hand , Just gimme one more try , while others attract attention with eye-catching graphics such as Blob n Bob , Only one ... Although they have not won awards, these projects still show potential for development, reflecting the efforts and learning spirit of the teams.

Beyond the scope of a competition final, Games Nexus is also an opportunity for students to expand their network of connections with businesses and game studios.

The event was marked by quality products, reflecting the thinking, learning ability and outstanding creativity of BUV students. Notably, the winning team with the game On my last leg were all first-year students from two BUV game programs.

Game Design, Programming and Graphics (BUV) Program Manager David Holloway – who guides the teams through the game-making process – was impressed with the quality of the projects, especially given the tight timeframe.

“I was particularly impressed by the way the students interpreted the theme. Each game had its own unique style and creative gameplay. The collaboration between game programming and game graphics students also helped the projects have better visual quality and presentation,” shared Professor David Holloway.

Mr. Hai Trinh – COO of GameGeek Asia – also highly appreciated the outstanding level of completion of this year's products. "The projects are better in both quantity and quality. I am very impressed with the newness of the ideas that you expressed," said Mr. Hai.
