The United Nations (UN) warned on November 12 that the civil war in Sudan is continuing to cause "severe violence and suffering" for millions of civilians in this northeastern African country.

Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council on November 12, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemarie DiCarlo stressed that Sudan is "trapped in a nightmare" due to recent brutal acts that have caused massive civilian casualties.
In addition, Ms. DiCarlo also condemned the continuous attacks by the RSF and SAF forces on densely populated areas, and called on the opposing sides in Sudan to cease fire to protect civilians.
Food insecurity is widespread in the war-torn country, according to Ramesh Rajasingham, director of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
In Darfur and Khartoum, thousands have died and malnutrition rates are rising, especially among children.
Therefore, Mr. Rajasingham called for promoting a "humanitarian pause" agreement to bring aid to conflict areas, while urging the international community to provide flexible financial support for relief operations and promote a ceasefire agreement.
However, despite international efforts to promote peace talks, both the RSF and the SAF continue to escalate military operations.
Since the conflict in Sudan began in April 2023, at least 20,000 people have been killed and more than 33,000 injured. The conflict has also created the world’s worst displacement crisis, with more than 11 million people forced to leave their homes and 3 million fleeing to neighboring countries.
