General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has called on the international community to designate the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a terrorist organization and take action against its sponsors outside Sudan's borders.

Mr Burhan said the opposition was seeking support from outlaws and terrorist groups. He also hinted at their ties to the Wagner mercenary group. He said there was “clearly” regional and international involvement in supporting these groups.

Meanwhile, RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo said in a video message that his forces were fully prepared for a ceasefire and comprehensive political talks to end the conflict.

Both sides blame the other for starting the war in mid-April in Khartoum and spreading to other parts of the country, including the western Darfur region, killing more than 7,500 people and displacing 5 million, destabilizing the region.

“Today we renew our commitment to the peace process to end this war,” Dagalo said in the video. “RSF is fully prepared for a ceasefire across Sudan to allow humanitarian aid deliveries… and the start of serious and comprehensive political negotiations.”

“We are still reaching out for peace, to end this war and the suffering of our people,” Burhan said, adding that the Sudanese military remained committed to withdrawing from politics during the transition to civilian rule.
