Strengthening cooperation between Canberra, Australia with ASEAN cities and Vietnam

On June 16, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Premier Andrew Barr had a meeting with the ASEAN Committee in Canberra with the participation of Heads of ASEAN diplomatic missions in Australia.

Premier Andrew Barr stressed the importance of promoting cooperation between Canberra and ASEAN countries and informed about the priorities in Canberra's international integration strategy.

Representatives of ASEAN delegations expressed opinions related to aviation cooperation, international education , and cooperation in the fields of tourism, health, trade, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam highly appreciated and thanked Premier Andrew Barr for his support for the relationship between Vietnam and Australia, especially between Vietnamese localities and the ACT.

Emphasizing the positive contributions of the Vietnamese community and Vietnamese students to the local economy , Ambassador Pham Hung Tam expressed his hope that the Canberra government will continue to welcome Vietnamese delegations to visit and work, contributing to enhancing cooperation and exchange between the two sides.

Thanking Ambassador Pham Hung Tam for his suggestions, Premier Andrew Barr said that he personally always supports promoting cooperative relations between Canberra and ASEAN cities and Vietnam.

Premier Andrew Barr expressed his willingness to attend the ASEAN-organized event at the annual multicultural festival in Canberra, the next one in February 2026 when the Vietnamese Ambassador is the Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Canberra.
