New British warship sabotaged

British authorities are investigating the incident in which the HMS Glasgow, the new generation warship of the country's navy, was sabotaged at the shipyard.

Dozens of cables on board the HMS Glasgow were “deliberately damaged”, according to BAE Systems, the main contractor responsible for building the ship.

"We immediately launched an internal investigation with our suppliers and stopped all work on the ship to inspect and ensure all conditions and quality control standards were met," a spokesman for BAE Systems, Europe's largest defence contractor, said. "Normal operations have resumed and we are assessing to determine the scope of repairs required."

The UK Defence Journal , a military news website, speculated that the culprit could be a contractor who had a dispute over money. BAE Systems has not confirmed any information regarding the motive for the sabotage.

According to the news site, more than 60 cables were broken. About 23,000 cables will be installed on HMS Glasgow, including data transmission lines between systems, equipment and ship personnel.

The investigation is expected to include identifying those responsible, understanding how the perpetrators were able to carry out the sabotage, and developing solutions to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

HMS Glasgow, an anti-submarine warfare ship tasked with protecting aircraft carriers and Trident nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, is the first of Britain's new Type 26 frigates. It is being built at Scotstoun Shipyard on the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland. The Royal Navy expects HMS Glasgow to enter service by the end of the decade.
