Novak Djokovic ended 2023 as ATP world number one and was honoured at a ceremony at the Pala Alpitour in Turin (where the ATP Finals were held) on November 13. "Ending the year as world number one is like winning the crown of the season," Nole said.

I think it's every player's dream, the hardest thing to achieve in our sport . Becoming world number one, winning Grand Slam titles is the pinnacle of tennis."

Djokovic defeated Holger Rune at the ATP Finals on November 12 and ended the year as world number one for the eighth time (the previous seven times were in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2020, 2021).

This season, Djokovic won 3 Grand Slams including Australian Open, Roland Garros, US Open and two ATP Masters 1,000 championships: Cincinnati Masters and Paris Masters.

Speaking about his personal achievements in 2023, Djokovic said: "This is not my best year but one of my best years. I won 3 out of 4 Grand Slams, reached the final in the remaining tournament. I have had many years of achieving this in one season.

In those years, I won more matches, played more tournaments. This year is different because I only played about 10, 11 tournaments. I peaked at the right tournament, at the right time."

"Becoming the world's number one tennis player has always been my big goal, besides winning a Grand Slam. At the beginning of the year, I didn't think about that but prioritized winning more Grand Slams. My current goal is to win the ATP Finals," Djokovic affirmed his ambition at the 2023 ATP Finals.

In addition to finishing the year at number one for the eighth time, Djokovic will reach 400 weeks at the top of the ATP rankings on November 20. Djokovic will face Sinner at 3am on November 15, while Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet Holger Rune at 8:30pm on November 14 in the Blue Group of the 2023 ATP Finals.
