The Russian military has attacked and destroyed another US-made M142 HIMARS rocket launcher being used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The destroyed HIMARS system is believed to be in a forest near the Khotimlya settlement in the direction of Kharkov. Images from the publicly released video show that the type of missile used to attack appears to be an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile. The missile accurately hit the launcher and other accompanying equipment.

The United States has provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with at least 39 HIMARS launchers since Russia began its military campaign in Ukraine. Germany promised to purchase three more to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces earlier this year.

The HIMARS M142 system is a modernized, lighter and more multi-mission version of the M270 multiple launch rocket system developed in the 1970s.

The HIMARS M142 system is mounted on a wheeled chassis, 6x6 configuration, armored cabin with a crew of 3. The maneuverability of the HIMARS M142 system is very impressive, with a maximum speed of over 96km/h.

These launchers are usually equipped with GPS-guided GMLRS M30/M31 series missiles, with a range of more than 70km, or MGM-140 ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles with a range of 165 to 300km depending on the version.

The Russian military has damaged or destroyed several Ukrainian HIMARS launchers with precision-guided weapons, such as the Iskander-M. In addition, Russian air defense and electronic warfare means have also significantly reduced the effectiveness of the expensive US-made system.

The Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile has a range of nearly 500km. It can be equipped with various conventional warheads, including cluster warheads, fuel-air enhanced explosive warheads, high-explosive fragmentation warheads, ground-penetrating warheads for bunker busting and electromagnetic pulse devices for anti-radar missions.

The highly maneuverable missile is guided by an inertial navigation system with GLONASS support. It can also be equipped with an optical seeker with a digital mapping area correlation system for terminal guidance.

Ongoing ground operations in Kharkiv allow the Russian military to search for several HIMARS launchers that were sent in this direction by Kiev forces to strike at Russian territory.
