Information 'British citizens may be banned from leaving Vietnam' is false

At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today (August 22), Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said the information that British citizens could have their passports confiscated and be banned from leaving Vietnam is untrue.

According to reporters at the press conference, the British newspaper Mirror reported last week that the country's Foreign Office had warned that some British citizens in Vietnam could be "banned from leaving the country and have their passports confiscated."

Accordingly, the British Foreign Office recommends that the exit ban may be related to investigation allegations against individuals and organizations violating business regulations, causing traffic accidents, working without appropriate visas and tax debts.

"We completely reject such false information," Ms. Hang told reporters at the press conference.

The spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent stance and policy of always creating favorable conditions for foreigners to enter, exit and travel in Vietnam, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

"Vietnamese authorities have implemented many measures to facilitate travel for foreign citizens coming to Vietnam for the purposes of studying, working, investing, market research and tourism, in accordance with Vietnamese laws," said Ms. Hang.
