Letter from Germany: Unexpectedly, the English team "survived"

There is no complete and convincing farewell to ease the sadness of the teams participating in the tournament and the fans for their national football team, especially when witnessing the joy of the two finalists and the champion team.

Football is like that, very harsh and unfortunately there is no magic to make farewells happy. And the team's fans leave, and the pubs and beer gardens in the host cities "mourn" with them.

For German fans, the same goes for Spain and England, although some tabloids have suggested that there was some sort of arrangement for these two teams to reach the final, after confusing decisions by the referee and VAR. For example, England were awarded a penalty in the semi-final against the Netherlands; Spain were given a penalty after the ball touched Marc Cucurella’s hand in the quarter-final against Germany.

In the minds of many German fans, they could not have imagined that the English team could "survive" so long and stay in the tournament until the last day despite showing a very lackluster performance until the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, although they were upset about the English referee Anthony Taylor ignoring the Cucurella handball, they still had to objectively admit that the Spanish team completely deserved to compete in the final.

No farewell can be enough to ease the sadness of the teams and their fans, but what they showed and brought during the tournament was the beauty of football. The weather in Europe in mid-July has begun to cool down and so have the hearts of the people.

Goodbye Euro 2024!
